Long abandoned and quietly fading into the landscape, the railway platform at Maguiresbridge stands as one of County Fermanagh’s more evocative relics. It originally opened on 1 March 1859, forming part of the Dundalk and Enniskillen Railway, at a time when Maguiresbridge held an important position as a regional junction connecting routes toward Derry, Omagh, Belfast, and north Leinster.

The station’s life was surprisingly long but ended abruptly when it closed on 1 October 1957, after which the site began its slow drift into disuse. This image captures a place left still and unused, marking the impact of the severed rail links on the community.

Though the trains have not returned, the remnants of the platform continue to echo its past.
